Saturday morning (1/12) around 10:30 AM I spotted a HUTTON’S VIREO in the SE
corner of Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (SE Portland). It flew towards
me, from branch to branch, about eight feet up, perching on each branch to look
around, then moving to the next one. I got good close-up views. The behavior
sparked my interest first, because it was not flighty, like a Kinglet. It had a
large head, no black bar on the two white wing bars. A minute after it passed
over the trail, I heard the characteristic repetitive song.
