Yes, male hummers can be rather aggressive. I think this ferocity is
exacerbated in cold weather. See the attached account.

for a good 5 minutes and then he suddenly picked her up with his feet and
dropped her on the porch floor where she took several minutes to recover
before finally flying off. I wasn’t sure she was going to survive that
treatment and especially in these temperatures, but I think she will be OK.
