A "Winter Wren" was reported but I didn't see it. By "Winter Wren" the
observer was referring to the former species, which included Pacific Wren. I
would have liked to have seen it, - perhaps tomorrow. Birding was very slow in
Fields today.

Mann Lake had a flock of 8 Buffleheads.

There was a pair of American Crows in a green meadow north of the Alvord Ranch.

Our (Judy Meredith and my) best bird was a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER at the wet
area on the Alvord Desert near the Alvord Hot Springs. It is my first ever in
Oregon in June and for Harney County ever. It was the only shorebird there
that is not a Harney County breeder.

(On a non-birding aside…The Denio Cafe is a hard-core OSU Beaver place, but the
soon to be opened Denio Hotel and Deli has a lot of Oregon Duck paraphernalia
in it. If you have been in total Denio you would know how odd that is in this
desert Nevada town.)
