On my third try, I finally found the YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER at 2:30 this
afternoon by the Capitol Pacific Building in Eugene, originally discovered
by Jim Carlson. It was feeding in the tiny cedar trees right next to the
Capitol Pacific Building near the end of E. 2nd Avenue. It can hide in
there quite well. I first spotted it in the cedar tree next to the sign for
Great Basin Insurance. I expect it spends a lot of time in those trees,
although it also flew across the bike path to feed low in some maples and
Douglas-firs.
A couple days ago I had a HUTTON'S VIREO in this area. Too late for the
Eugene CBC, though, unfortunately!
