On Sunday I drove out to the coast to escape the heat. Although it was hot at
the beach also. First stop was Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock where I hoped to
see Puffins. I was told that they were best seen early in the day when it was
cooler. So no Puffins. But I did see Brandt's Cormorant nesting on the south
side of the rock.
Next stop Clatsop Spit. Plenty of Caspian Terns on the beach. At a pond near
parking lot "C" I found some Whimbrel, Short Billed Dowitcher Least Sandpiper
and Western Sandpiper.
