That would be very cool if he does. We have Selasphorus sp. winter here
about every three years or so, south coast. Never seems like the adult
males do though. So why not Calliope? Maybe so, if the observer is pretty
sure great, I still think we should check out such unusual records as a
matter of birding and that is really all I intended to do. It is an
unprecedented record, so why not make sure about it? I think that is the
real strength of OBOL which we don't always have on eBird- is peer review.
It would be a totally cool mid-winter record for sure!

There is no overwhelmingly exclusionary reason why Calliope Hummingbirds
might not also, occasionally, over-winter.
While I doubt this is a migrant, I have every confidence in the
observers ability to sort out a male Calliope Hummingbird from a
crowd of Anna's and would respectfully suggest that this bird is
over-wintering and that we should, perhaps, lighten up...
I hope it returns and he gets photos.
