Returning to central Oregon from Summer Lake shorebird survey, some of us stopped to bird in Fort Rock and at Cabin Lake. The reported Orchard Oriole from last Friday at Cabin Lake was NOT re-located. We did enjoy the many birds of the Ponderosa pines there however. Close up birding is the charm of the place, a great chance for naked eye looks at Crossbills, Cassin's Finches, White-breasted Nuthatch, White-headed Woodpecker, etc, and a surprise Red-breasted Sapsucker coming to the water basin.
At Fort Rock we enjoyed the usual Sparrow medley and Prairie Falcons, White-throated Swifts etc. Full list is on birdnotes.net for Lake County/Cabin Lake. judy, jmeredit@xxxxxxxxxxx
