John and Lynn Brune joined me today on the ECAS Bend - Alfalfa Raptor Survey.
We spent 6 hours driving 74 miles und p. cloudy skies, temps. between 37 and 59
degrees F. and SW winds between 1 and 15 mph. We counted 7 species for a total
of 95 raptors which was above average for the route. The highlight of the day
was a very cooperative Merlin perched on a dead tree top close to the road and
gave us long looks and a few photos.
Raptors counted:
Red-tailed Hawk ------------------ 95
American Kestrel ----------------- 15
Golden Eagle --------------------- 1
Rough-legged Hawk ---------------- 3
Prairie Falcon ------------------- 5
Merlin --------------------------- 1
Cooper's Hawk -------------------- 1
