The 4th South Grants Pass raptor survey was accomplished today (03-19-15) Distance traveled: 26.8 miles; Survey time: 2.5 hours Weather: partly cloudy to overcast Results: Red-tailed Hawk - 5 American Kestrel - 3 Northern Harrier - 1 (immature) Bald Eagle - 1 (Adults) Red-shouldered Hawk - 1 White-tailed Kite - 1 Osprey - 2 Golden Eagle - 1 Turkey Vulture - 8 Numbers of most species lower then previous count. However, some interesting finds, a Kite was seen perched at the top of a conifer tree a good distance from any fields (perhaps a nesting location). The Harrier still around. Two Osprey; a Golden Eagle soaring high over Riverbanks Road area. One small "kettle" of 7 Turkey Vultures along Fish Hatchery Rd. Two Northern Rough-winged Swallows along the Applegate River (Fish Hatchery bridge), plus 2 pair of Hooded Mergansers. Dennis (north of Grants Pass)
