The 2nd North Grants Pass Raptor survey was accomplished today (1-20-16)
Distance traveled: 38.1 miles; Survey time: 3.5 hours
Weather: Fog early, then overcast
Results:
Red-tailed Hawk - 17
American Kestrel - 3
Northern Harrier - 1
Bald Eagle - 1 (adult)
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1
Cooper's Hawk - 1
No unexpected birds observed: 31 Great Egrets (grouped) in the pastures along
Lower River Rd. Lots of Ducks in the flooded fields. Large number of American
Wigeon and Green-winged Teal; 2 male EURASIAN WIGEON , 2 GADWALL (pair). SAY'S
PHOEBE along Hunt Lane. The Red-shouldered Hawks have been difficult to find,
they are not talking much right now (except for the one at our place), and if
out there, managing to stay out of sight.
