The 1st North Grants Pass raptor survey was completed today (12-17-19).
Traveled 37.9 miles in 3.25 hours. Weather: overcast
Observed were:
Red-tailed Hawk - 11
American Kestrel -6
Bald Eagle - 2 (1 Ad, 1 Imm)
Red-shouldered Hawk - 10
Prairie Falcon - 1
Peregrine Falcon - 1
Cooper's Hawk - 1
Not a bad count for this route. Three pairs of Red-shoulders noted and
believe the first time there numbers nearly matched Red-tails along the
route. No other unexpected species. One field had 32 Great Egrets with
13 Great Blue Herons. Another had 8 Western Meadowlarks.
