The 1st North Grants Pass Raptor survey was accomplished today (12-18-13) Distance traveled: 38.0 miles; Survey time: 3.25 hours Weather: freezing fog to fog (visibility about 1.5 to 2 miles). Results: Red-tailed Hawk - 14 American Kestrel - 6 Bald Eagle - 1 (adult) Red-shouldered Hawk - 3 Peregrine Falcon -1 Falcon sp. - small to mid-sized Falcon (thought a Merlin, but not sure; in flight and distant) Considering the weather of late, didn't think the results were too bad. For one, the Eagle and Peregrine Falcon were both missed on the Grants Pass CBC (today is one day after count week). No Kites, or none have been seen for some time along Lower River Road. It appears Kites are going to be pretty rare this winter in the western Rogue Valley. Dennis
