Here are your North Central District Updates for January 10th, 2021:
*Updates to PIVOT COVID Guidelines:*
The fraternity COVID guidelines are being updated for this semester and
will be released soon. Here are a few important changes of note to the
policy from the National Council:
1. Chapters can participate in on-campus, in-person chapter business and
activities, with the *exception of the in-person performance of the Ritual*,
if the activity has been approved by the college or university to take
place in person and with the permission of the Director of Bands, as long
as all campus public health guidance is being followed. It remains our
recommendation, however, that chapters work to conduct as much as possible
online. If conducted in-person, the activity must still be mirrored
virtually, whenever possible, for those students who are not on campus or
do not feel comfortable participating. Members who choose not to
participate in an in-person activity cannot be penalized in any way for
their virtual participation or for their choice not to participate.
Chapters will be subject to disciplinary action if they penalize brothers
or candidates for choosing not to participate in an activity or event that
takes place in person.
2. The Ritual Performance and Education Committee will manage the logistics
of the Ritual this semester with the aid of District Officers. The RPEC
will look for ways to accommodate chapter and campus schedules and plans
are being developed to provide large group initiation activities at the
National Convention, if it is held in-person, to provide the full Ritual
experience to our newest members. The dates and times will be released soon.
3. The National Council voted in the fall to suspend the requirement that
members must be enrolled in a band class to maintain eligibility for
membership. This eligibility modification continues through the remainder
of the biennium (July 2021). While the band requirement was lifted, members
must still be enrolled in coursework on a college campus to remain active
or associate members or be eligible membership candidates. If a student
graduates or leaves the institution, they must be reported on the
Graduating Senior Report, even if that decision was made by the university
or the student is unable to take classes this semester because they are not
being offered and therefore is temporarily terminating affiliation.
4. Guidance about chapter operations after vaccines are distributed on a
campus will be released once applicable. At this time no campus has
released guidance on changes to campus activities because a critical number
of students, faculty, and staff have been vaccinated, but we are constantly
monitoring that situation given that every state is approaching vaccine
distribution a little differently right now.
*Brotherhood Block:*
This Saturday, January 16th, 2021 is the North Central District's
Brotherhood Block. Join us for an afternoon of games and social activities
with your Brothers from around the NCD. More details will be released on
Facebook early this week. Hope to see you there!
*Open Link for NCD Slack Workspace:*
This year, the NCD Council set out to create a District-wide Slack
workspace to allow for Brothers to communicate with Brothers from other
chapters and for announcements to be made by the District Council. Chapter
officers are already in the workspace in their respective group chats
(channels), but now we are opening up the general channel to all Brothers.
This channel will be used for general announcements. To join this
