Lol lol, Laura!!
His jaw abscess stops him eating hay these days sadly. Best he can manage
is fresh grass. He is pretty choosy about the smell and flavour of his hay!
And the soft ones I can get he doesn't like. Pickle pig does though,
thankfully, so none wasted!
I tried chopping his hay up but wow a definite no on that lol! He likes
long strands and nothing else :D

Thank you Laura, for your thoughts on Moo chewing! I wanted to reply
earlier but didn't get chance.
The root of the issue is with his jaw, as because of that he struggles to
chew most foods, has done for years since his tooth extraction. Since his
abscess has developed he finds it even harder to chew. So this causes him
to sometimes swallow before fully chewing. Usually I chop up apple into
little bits, but he wasn't eating that today so I tempted him with a bigger
piece which he decided to eat. Big mistake as then he swallowed it too
quickly.
The previous time he choked though was before he was having this level of
jaw problems, so that was down to him loving his food and stuffing as much
hay in his mouth as possible 😉
He quite often tries to swallow his food too quick I think because he
loves food so much!!
So generally I try to keep all food in tiny pieces.
Thanks for looking at how this happened too!
I'll have to get some olive oil in, we only have some walnut oil at the
moment!

hi Katy
Syringe feeding pumpkin puree may help. My 94 year dad has this problem
sometimes and he needs to drink something thick like V8 juice which works
every time, so that is why I'm thinking smooth pumpkin puree may work.
Let me know if you try it and if it works. I'm glad Moo can breathe at
least, but still stressful.

do the bunny Heimlich maneover to keep him breathing. It took about a week

This is different though, he has been breathing ok so far. I tried some
heimlich movements but that doesn't seem to be helping. He is refusing food
understandably. He is able to swallow his saliva as I hear him doing this
regularly as if trying to shift it himself.
I gave him a run around the house hoping this would get things moving for
him somehow, but no. And I tried some gentle massages but no. I gave him
his usual metacam in case of inflammation in his throat, and water, but
still no movement. He could swallow the water ok.
Next step is some syringe feed to see if this will help, because it's
gloopy and slippery.
I looked up online what humans do in similar situations where they're able
to breathe, and it recommended bubbly drinks that erode the stuck piece of
food and create gas for burping the food out, so that's a definite no for
bunnies! Other than that the website said about something like butter as
it's slippery. I've heard of bunnies having olive oil before so perhaps a
teaspoon of this is an option? I'd try syringe food first I think. They
also say banana as it's slippery but I can't get him to eat.
I am also hoping that waiting it out will help, also recommended on the
website. As apple does go soggy and slippery when left, so maybe it will
just slip down after a little while longer.
I worry though if it has got stuck in his throat could it get stuck
further down? :(
Any other ideas anyone? Or experiences to share?
