Subject: [mediacare] Asia Pacific Leadership Program
Dear friends of Asia Pacific Leadership Program,
I would like to introduce and anounce the Asia Pacific Leadership Program, one
of the non-degree scholarship from East-West Center. The Asia Pacific
Leadership Program is an innovative certificate program designed to meet new
educational and human resource needs during a time of increasing regional
interdependence. It will create a network of leaders from the United States,
Asia, and the Pacific who are familiar with the issues and cultures of the
region and trained to exercise leadership toward the well-being of the
countries and peoples of the region. The program has been established through
generous funding support from the Freeman Foundation.
The program seeks outstanding young professionals and students from the United
States and countries of the Asia Pacific region. For currently and recently
enrolled graduate students, the program complements studies at home
institutions but provides them with Asia Pacific colleagues and faculty
typically unavailable at home. The program particularly seeks to involve
graduate students receiving their degrees from home institutions in the Asia
Pacific region who may otherwise not come to the United States. The program's
graduates will leave the Center with a broad regional perspective,
knowledgeable about the societies and issues of the region, and trained to
exercise leadership and promote cooperation. It is expected that graduates will
seek or return to positions in business, government, non-governmental
organizations and universities.
The program invites applications from:
§ Outstanding young professionals
§ Recent bachelor degree recipients
§ Currently enrolled graduate students
Program will feature a Core Seminar, Leadership Seminar, group projects,
experiential learning, a field study, and internships as available. Individuals
must be admitted to the University of Hawai'i as post-baccalaureate
unclassified students, which will allow them to enroll in elective courses at
the University. The field study will be conducted after the completion of
courses and the program will conclude with final presentations in Honolulu.
Funding: Participants must provide round-trip air transportation to Honolulu,
and room, board, and other personal expenses estimated at $990 per month.
Program tuition, an educational expenses allowance, health insurance, and field
study expenses are provided through generous funding support from the Freeman
Foundation. Some additional scholarship support is available.
