Since you've only had it for a week (further to my earlier missguesstimate of January ;P I *strongly* recommend that you upgrade to 10.2 pronto. And, come to think of it, since you are asking about modem questions you *don't* have high speed, do you ;P? Definitely, harrass someone for a copy of 10.2.6 combo updater, or go into a Mac store and see if they'll burn it for you (or sell it to you for $20 or so). As for why such an old eMac is still in the retail market... hmmm? >I just bought the computer - an eMac (G4) using OS X vers 10.1.4. They >also supplied CD for vers 10.2 - why they didn't loaded I don't know? I >bought it from Future Shop last week so maybe they didn't know how!! >Should I wait until vers 10.3? Unequivocally, NO!!! 10.2.6 is hands down the *best* Mac OS ever released (to date). It's fast (vs. 10.1 and 9.2), *incredibly* stable and has a lot of the 10.1.x-OS 9 compatibility bugs worked out of it. I would advise you not to get used to doing thing in 10.1.x. That way you'll only have to learn one new interface (OS X 10.2), not two (there are subtle differences b/t 10.1 and 10.2). However, if you do stay with 10.1 I advise updating to 10.1.5 (but, as I said before, 10.2 is *sooooooo* much better). PS If your modem connection is stable enough you may be able to download the 10.2.6 combo updater (& if you're patient enough to let your phone line be tied up that long). 86 MB should take between 6 and 10 hours to d/l on a 56K line (best to do it at night). <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=70174> Also, when you get the chance, download Safari, and go into the Preferences and turn on tabbed browsing (you have to turn it on to get access to it).
