Sounds like you may have got part of your answer! I NEVER use refilled
cartridges, no matter how tempting.
But that wouldn't explain why the rest of the document was coming out in
black ink properly so my hunch is that it's still something to do with the
way in which WordArt replicates black from colour cartridges.

of 1 day.I have changed the ink cartridges(3 of them) and its now coming
out
purple and black.The word art was set up in black ink as well.Could it be
that the black cartridge which was a re-fill was contaminated......bill
