Well, if you're confident that your AV software is up to date and that you did a full system scan, you can confirm that your clean by following the instructions here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bugbear@xxxx tml As I recall (and I'm aging rapidly so don't hold me to this) one of the variations on this worm does some extension reassociation to get the teddy bear look going. IrFanView is an image viewing app that also has some batch capabilities. Being an image viewer, it wouldn't surprise me that it may have grabbed an association to some of the more common extensions, though. Have you installed it by any chance? I know that Lockergnome recently reviewed it so perhaps you were reading that daily email from Lockergnome and followed the link and installed it? Finally, there's the possibility that your Operating System's ShellIconCache may be corrupted. Since that's an OS specific fix-up and the boss has already had her OS switch flipped for the day, I'll avoid a lengthy discourse on that item. I'll say only the following; the corrupted ShellIconCache problem is most common in all versions of Win9x (including ME) and NT4. I've yet to see it occur in XP or 2000. This article may get you started on resolving the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;132668 The instructions are pretty clear but we used to simply delete the ShellIconCache file from the Windows folder and reboot. This may or may not work on your current system but it will not harm anything to delete the file as it is automagically generated by the OS. Hope that helps!
