Thanks to all who have given suggestions re using dates to and from in
the access report, it looks like I will need to redo the report as I had
it based directly on a table and not on a query, will do the query and
redo the report

Thanks for all the help, very useful as usual

Cathy's method will work very well, and is, in fact, the 'preferred'
method,
but to be even quicker about it, by avoiding the need to call a separate
form, you could do the following:

1) Open the Query Designer on the query underlying the data source used
for
the report

2) Enter the following in the column containing the date field on which
you'd like to limit your results:
Between [Enter Start Date] And [Enter End Date]

3) In the report header, create a text box

4) Give that text box the following for its Control Source:
     =3D"Employee hours from " & [Enter Start Date] & " to " & [Enter =
End
Date]

When the report is run, the user will see two simple text boxes, the
first
asking for the start date and the second asking for the end date. Once
the
report is compiled, the report header will show whatever dates were
entered,
i.e.:
Employee hours from 10/1/2007 to 12/31/2007

Hope this helps
