Okay - the problem is solved but I can't figure out why. I closed all
applications, tried to restart the machine and got a message that said
"Please close all Microsoft Outlook applications before shutting down
the machine." In the Task Manager no applications were running. But
when I went to the Processes tab, Winword.exe and Outlook.exe were both
still running even though the apps had been closed. I ended those two
processes, restarted Outlook, and now it is fine. So I don't know what
that was about but now all is well. Has anyone seen that sort of thing
before -- processes still running when the apps have been closed?

Thanks!

Have you ruled out server problems? Modem problems? It's very possible
the
problem is not Outlook.=20

Subject: [mso] Weird sudden Outlook 2002 problem

I am running Outlook 2002 SP-2 on a Windows 2000 Professional machine,
which is on a Small Business Server 2000 network. I have my Outlook
configured to receive my Exchange server mail, as well as a POP3
personal account that I have. It has been working just fine for almost
a year - my Exchange mail automatically comes into my Outlook, and I
receive my POP mail whenever I click on "Send/Receive." Tonight when I
got home from work, I clicked "Send/Receive" and I got a popup window
that said "The operation failed" and the only option is to click OK.
There is no error code or any other information. I tested the POP
account settings and they were fine. I tried it again. No dice. I
removed the POP account and re-configured it again in Outlook,
successfully tested the settings, tried to Send/Receive and still no
dice. I ran Office Update but there are no Outlook updates showing up.
It was working this morning and the computer has been on all day. This
is both weird and extremely inconvenient as I use the personal account
for my grad school stuff and now I have to use a clunky web interface to
get to that mail. Can anyone please help?

Thanks,
Elise
