Well........Linda, in my defense, I didn't want to use the Plan B
solution since it's not always right. My intention was to find the
proper way to get the job done. A work-around, imho, is not the right
answer. I can almost always find a Plan B, but I always prefer to do
whatever it is the way it ought to be. Also, I didn't realize until I'd
just about given up that the other field even existed. It was the
discussions about comparisons operators that made me look for it. /g

Maybe next time you post a question like this, you should give us all
the details upfront so we can help you more quickly...since we didn't
know there could be another field with the same info, we would never
have come up with the match field function.

Remember everyone...the more info you give, the faster a solution can be
reached, and with the least amount of emails.

Glad you got close to what you need anyway, Glenda...tho I still can't
figure out why Ray's code didn't work for you cuz it sure did for me.=20

OK. The Answer. It's a Plan B and MOSTLY works.

One of the fields available to me is email, which is strictly an email
address. The communication field contains either an email address OR a
telephone number. =3D20

Since I can't use a Like or Not Like comparison operator to get my
DESIRED result within a merge field, I'm comparing the two available
fields and if they match then no text. If they don't match, I'm
including the not matching record.

This will get me what I want most of the time, but not always, since the
not matching record might also be an email address but USUALLY is not. I
have to change the text of my document so it's more ambiguous but don't
see an option for that.

sigh...heavy sigh

Thanks all for trying to help. /g
