Well, if normal.dot is corrupt, this can happen....it's also a symptom of a
macro virus...it also happens when there's some kind of add-in running and
Word thinks it changed normal.dot in some way.

You can try a Detect and Repair, since that's easy to do....but, first I'd
try renaming normal.dot to something like normal.old and see if it stops
happening...if so, then you know it's normal.dot...if not, I'd be sure to
run a thorough virus check...then, if it's still happening I'd check my Word
Startup folder for add-ins that might be running in the background and
remove them all and put one back at a time until you find the culprit

Usually it's the add-in thing causing it

Subject: [mso] Weird Normal.dot query in Word 2002

Hi all

Lately I've been receiving prompts to save changes to normal.dot when I
exit Word. I know I've ticked the option in Tools to be prompted to save
changes to the normal template but this is happening when all I've done is
open Word, and therefore load the normal template, then close it down
immediately without having done a single thing! Seems to me as if it's
trying to alter things without my knowledge - or it's having a mental
breakdown. Is this just a simple Detect and Repair trigger or is there
something else I've overlooked.

I know it's relatively trivial, but I'm sure one day I will click yes
instead of no and instantly regret it!
