[mso] Frequent Save Changes Prompt in Word 2002

Hi Linda and Anne,
In Word 2002 SP3, many (but not all) documents generate the "Save changes"
prompt even when absolutely no changes are made. IOW, for some documents,
it's enough merely to open then close the document to get the prompt. This is
similar to Anne's question ("Weird Normal.dot query in Word 2002") so I
scanned the whole PC for viruses, then I checked the Office STARTUP folder,
and found only one file in that folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\STARTUP\MSFilter.dot). If I open that file, it appears totally
blank. If I close it without making any changes, I do NOT get the "Save
changes" prompt.
I do NOT get the prompt if I open a new document and close it without altering
it. I'm assuming that is an adequate check of Normal.dot.
Why would about half of my documents generate the "Save changes" prompt? As
Anne said, it's no big thing, but I worry that I will damage a document some
day either by saving a bad change or failing to save a good one.
