Thanks for that tip which I clearly remember how it works from Word 97-2003. However, as I mentioned, I'm using Word 2007 and although your idea sounds logically correct, I just cannot implement it that way under Word 2007. The Select Tool exists under the Home Tab and offers Select All, Select Objects, or Select Text with Similar Formatting. In this case, I feel the Select Objects would be the correct choice. Using the resultant arrow shaped tool allows me to draw a dotted line rectangle around an image and its caption text box but as soon as I release the mouse button the dotted line disappears. To make things more difficult, Microsoft decided to put the Group Tool button on the Page Layout tab and another one also appears on the Picture Formatting tab but they are always grayed out as if no selection has ever been made. I recall from previous versions that one could also right-click on the selected objects and then pick Group from the resultant context menu box that would appear but of course seemingly being unable to select multiple objects, that choice never appears for me. Can someone using Word 2007 also confirm this behavior? Just drop any image on a page, right click and choose Insert Caption. Just hit OK for the default "Figure 1". Then try the selection arrow to see if you can lasso them together. Maybe I need to get a new rope to make my lasso work. :-) Brian -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jonathan Drawer Sent: Friday, March 14, 2008 3:42 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Picture Captions Using the Select (arrow shape) tool drag a box completely around the image and the text or caption box so both are selected. Then Group the items together. You should then set the Properties of the resulting Group as you need, such as how to handle Wordwrap. This works with any number of images, text boxes, lines, etc. that can be constructed using the Drawing Tools. After Selecting and Grouping the objects then you may need to click on the Select tool to unselect it to continue with editing. Its bugged me for a long time and I have yet to find any solution or work-around for the problem. Is there any way of locking together an image and a caption box so that they move in unison if any preceding text anywhere in the document is revised? Otherwise, the photo and the text box can become separated by several paragraphs resulting in a formatting mess if they were set up for text-wrapping.
