Helga....does this happen with any other programs other than Office programs? Does it happen with ALL the Office programs? Are you running any other programs in the background when this happens? Have you tried deleting temp files? I'm thinking this sounds more like a Windows problem then an Office problem (since rebooting seems to give you some relief). Have you tried reinstalling Office 97 right over top of itself? Any chance you could upgrade to Office 2000? Can you remember what the last thing you did was BEFORE this started happening? Installed some other software, maybe, that could be running in the background and conflicting with Office? Like maybe an Antivirus program? Is this at home or at work on a network? Sorry for all the questions, but the more specific details you give, the better chances of locating the cause of the problem. Hi everybody. I use Office '97 on Windows 2000 Pro. Periodically, when I boot up my computer and then start up an MS Office application (Word, Excel, whatever), it will take a very long time for the application window to come up, and then the application doesn't work. By "not working" I mean that if I click on any of the icons or menus or try to type in the window, nothing happens. When I try to close the application, I get a warning, "Application is not responding." And in the window that has that warning messasge, there is the option of closing the program. Either I use that or Windows Task Manager to close the program, because if I try closing the program by clicking on any of the usual parts of the applicaton window, nothing happens. It won't close on it's own. If I launch the application by double-clicking a file, the same thing happens, and I get a message like this: "Can not find the file ['C:\Pathname\Filename of the file that I double clicked on] (or one of its component). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available. Then I just have to close the application. If I reboot Windows 2000, then it may or may not correct the problem. I just have to keep rebooting until it works. But rebooting is the only thing that I've tried that fixes the problem. It's happening more often now than it used to. Anybody got a clue?
