Your right on here But its not the Normal.Dot that's giving the problem as I 
have
deleted it more than once and started over.

Still have not found the problem!

Word will build a new, default normal.dot if it doesn't find any when it loads, 
so
no need to search for an old copy.
Only problem is that you'll lose any customization you have done to Word.
