NOW() gives the current date AND TIME, whereas TODAY() only gives the
date....so, NOW() would only work if the dates in column A were formatted as
date AND time

I think that might be the shortened version of what I want :-)))
I have read up on lookup functions, taken college courses in my area and
written my own formulas, including a vlookup today that worked fine. I get
confused on the differences:
Lookup
Vs.
Hlookup (horizontal)
VLookup (vertical)
Match
Index
They all seem to do basically the same thing. Probably just my warped mind.
Just out of curiosity would now() have also worked in your formula.
