Thanks, Linda. I was able to do the upgrade this morning and it went
just as you said. Not one problem that I can see. I downloaded both
SP1 and SP2 right away. So far, everything looks fine.
I like to do a clean install of any program also, but trying to get rid
of previous versions of Office has always been a problem for me. Even
when I use the erasers, parts still get left. And since I have to do
this on 4 other machines I was hoping just upgrading would work. I did
mine first because if it messed up at least I would be the only one mad
at me! :) And then I would know what I needed to do with the others.

Hi Rose....tho I usually always prefer a clean install of ANY program,
rather than the upgrade, just cuz it further limits the possibility of
problems, in the case of Office 2000 to 2002, I can tell you that I have
done the upgrade on many computers (using the full version of 2002) and
it has gone without a hitch. Tho it's always best to backup your
important stuff, just to be safe, I can truthfully tell you that I have
done this upgrade many times now, without losing any major settings.
The only things I've heard some people lose when they do the upgrade are
some of their Outlook rules and they have had to re-create them, but
that's the only thing I, personally, have heard.
But....I would wait a couple days to see if anyone replies to
this....just in case someone has some horror story they want to relate
LOL
However, if you DO do the upgrade, I highly recommend immediately going
to Microsoft's website and downloading both SP1 and SP2, becuz they
GREATLY improve Outlook. I'm sure they improve some other stuff, but
the most obvious improvements I've see are in Outlook. (two glaring
things that come to mind....before SP1, if you receive mail in a
subfolder, the main folder does not expand to show this subfolder has
mail...this was fixed in SP1....and Outlook 2002 has a problem with
rules when you first turn it on....the first 10 mails or so don't go
into their assigned folders...but this was fixed with SP2)
Oh...and another thing....remember that Office XP does require
activation and can only be put on one computer (well, one desktop and
one laptop)....so, if you have more than one computer, make sure you put
it on the one where you want it, or you will have to call Microsoft if
you want to remove it from that one and put it on a different one.
For a while, I was saying that I still preferred Office 2000....but
since SP2, I may be changing my mind :-)
