Thanks for your time Brian. I now know more about Exchange than I did b4 -----Original Message----- From: Brian Politis [mailto:bpolitis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 6:43 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder I don't think so. I believe it will pick them up regardless. Also, I THINK only the .bad files will be messages. The other files will be relay errors and other informational messages from the SMTP service. You can actually open them in notepad and get an idea on what they are. If they still won't go, try renaming them to *.eml (make a backup copy first). I don't have time to verify that is the right info! -----Original Message----- From: Tom Howarth [mailto:tom@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 1:27 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder Just a quick one do I need to rename the file extensions from *.BAD, *.BDP and *.BDR when I moved them? -----Original Message----- From: Brian Politis [mailto:bpolitis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 6:15 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder OK, the typical badmail folder is for the Windows2000 SMTP service that comes by default with IIS. It sounds like your boss activated this service so that it received the mail instead of the SMTP service for Exchange. SMTP for exchange is a more advanced service and co-opts the native Win2000 service. =3D3D3D20 Do you have any other servers running IIS? If so, set up the SMTP service on that server. Than tell it use your exchange server as a smart host. Put the mail in the bad mail Q on this server, and it should go out to your exchange box. You can set the "smart host field" by right clicking the smtp service under IIS in computer management and going to the SMTP / Delivery /Advanced tab. Also set it to allow for relay from anywhere (to make it easy) and stop and start the service. It should then pick up the mail and deliver it. If it can't deliver it, it will put it in it's own bad mail Q, and you can keep moving it back and forth until you get the settings right. -----Original Message----- From: Tom Howarth [mailto:tom@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 1:00 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder Exchange 2000 (not sure on Service pack) running on windows 2000 server sp3 -----Original Message----- From: Brian Politis [mailto:bpolitis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 5:56 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder What version of exchange are you running? -----Original Message----- From: Tom Howarth [mailto:tom@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D3D3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 12:54 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder Help, I copied the files and stopped and started SMTP to no avail. -----Original Message----- From: Brian Politis = [mailto:bpolitis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D3D3D3D20 Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 5:37 PM To: msexchange@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [msexchange] Re: Recovery of Mail on Bad Mail folder That should be it, unless you have changed something in your services. Try copying it there and see what happens (it shouldn't hurt anything). Over the weekend my boss configured a new connector in our exchange server but at the same time managed to muck up, mail relaying/routing. We could mail out but not receive. All mail was being received by our server but was disappearing into the ether. We have now got mail running again, but are missing mails form Sunday morning until approx 2:30 this afternoon (Monday). I have found a directory called "Bad Mail" that holds a lot of files dated yesterday and today, the last were placed in there just prior to our resumption of normal service. I have two questions=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D20 1: is this where our missing mail is? 2: if so how do I get it out and onto the correct recipitant, or if not Where is our missing mail and again how do it recover it Regards Tom Howarth =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3= D3D3D3D 3=3D D3D=3D3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D3D3D D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3= D3D3D3D 3=3D D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3= D3D3D3D 3=3D D3D3D=3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D3D3D D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3= D3D=3D3D3 D=3D 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D3D D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3= D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3= D3D3D=3D3 D=3D 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D3D D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D= 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D= 3D3D3D3D3 D=3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D 3=3D3D D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D= 3D=3D3D3D3D 3=3D D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D= 3D3D=3D3D3D 3=3D D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3= D3D3D=3D3D3D3 D=3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D3D=3D3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3= D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D= 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D =3D3D=3D 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3 D=3D3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D= 3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3 D=3D 3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3 D=3D3D 3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D=3D3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D= 3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3 D=3D 3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D=3D3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D= 3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D=3D3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm ===================== Use the below link for Archives, and to set your preferences. http://thethin.net/exchangelist.cfm
