St. Julie Billiart (1751-1816)
Born in Cuvilly, France, into a family of well-to-do farmers, young Marie
Rose Julia Billiart showed an early interest in religion and in helping the
sick and poor. Though the first years of her life were relatively peaceful
and uncomplicated, Julie had to take up manual work as a young teen when her
family lost its money. However, she spent her spare time teaching catechism
to young people and to the farm laborers. A mysterious illness overtook her
when she was about 30. Witnessing an attempt to wound or even kill her
father, Julie was paralyzed and became a complete invalid. For the next two
decades she continued to teach catechism lessons from her bed, offered
spiritual advice and attracted visitors who had heard of her holiness.

For today's Scriptures, follow this link: http://www.usccb.org/nab/

You are the children of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with
your ancestors when he said to Abraham, In your offspring all the families
of the earth shall be blessed. For you first, God raised up his servant and
sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways. ~Acts
3:11-26

While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said
to them, "Peace be with you." But they were startled and terrified and
thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, "Why are you
troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my
feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have
flesh and bones as you can see I have." ~Luke 24:35-48

Understanding of the Resurrection continues to grow. The disciples went from
being "troubled" to being at "peace" when the Lord stood in their midst.
Life had overcome death. Light shined through the darkness. Goodness
triumphed over sin. Christ has Risen. Alleluia!

I pray that I may grow in my own understanding of the Resurrection. I pray
that my troubled and doubtful feelings may turn into trust and peace as I
encounter the Risen Lord, and as He lives in me.

Ann requests prayers for herself for a complete recovery from a broken ankle
and wrist. Nancy from PA requests prayers for her two adult children, both
with families, who have lost their jobs over two months ago, that they may
find meaningful jobs with financial stability. Irene asks prayers for a
special intention. A mother requests prayers for her daughter who is
struggling with career decisions.

We pray for people suffering from natural disaster, especially those in
Haiti and Chile. We pray for great respect for life from natural conception
to natural death. We pray for an end of terrorism and war, for the safety
of our troops and their families at home.

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe!

Father Pat

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalm 46:10
