Sts. Peter and Paul (d. 64 & 67)
Peter: St. Mark ends the first half of his Gospel with a triumphant climax.
He has recorded doubt, misunderstanding and the opposition of many to Jesus.
Now Peter makes his great confession of faith: "You are the Messiah" (Mark
8:29b). It was one of the many glorious moments in Peter's life, beginning
with the day he was called from his nets along the Sea of Galilee to become
a fisher of men for Jesus. For more, follow the link below:

Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him and a light shone in the cell.
He tapped Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, "Get up quickly." The
chains fell from his wrists. The angel said to him, "Put on your belt and
your sandals."
He did so. ~Acts 12:1-11

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh
and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say
to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the
gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the
keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." ~Matthew
16:13-19

On the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul we're struck by how human these Saints
were. Their significant failings and sins could have been enough to cause
them to give up. Still, God's grace was more than was needed. God sees as
human persons don't, and God chose both of them to be great leaders in the
Church ... and Saint Pater as the first head of the Church, the high Office
we now see as Pope!

I pray that my own shortcomings may not cause me to give up. I pray that I
may rely on God's grace, and then be ready to follow God's call wherever it
leads me. I pray that I may love the Church and help it to grow.

We pray for unity in our country and that we may build a Culture of Life. We
pray for the safety of our troops, their safe return and their families at
home. We pray for a deep and profound respect for life, and for the courage
and willingness to stand up for life. We pray for one another, for those who
have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most. Have a
good day!

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe!

Father Pat

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalm 46:10
