Blessed Luke Belludi (1200-c. 1285)
In 1220, St. Anthony was preaching conversion to the inhabitants of Padua
when a young nobleman, Luke Belludi, came up to him and humbly asked to
receive the habit of the followers of St. Francis. Anthony liked the
talented, well-educated Luke and personally recommended him to St. Francis,
who then received him into the Franciscan Order.

In those days, in their thirst for water, the people grumbled against Moses,
saying, "Why did you ever make us leave Egypt? Was it just to have us die
here of thirst with our children and our livestock?" ~ Exodus 17:3-7

Many more began to believe in him because of his word, and they said to the
woman, "We no longer believe because of your word; for we have heard for
ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world." ~ John
4:5-42 or 4:5-15, 19b-26, 39a, 40-42

The people of Israel grumbled against Moses. Whenever God blessed them they
became dissatisfied and grumbled even more. In our Gospel Jesus meets the
woman at the well. He enters into a dialogue with her with great respect,
and she comes to faith, even believing He is the Messiah. We can be more
satisfied with what God has given us. We can believe too, that God will
strengthen our faith if we listen to is Word and follow His way.

I pray that I may not grumble, but be more grateful. I pray that my faith
may be strengthened by listening to God's word and following His way.
