Blessed James Oldo (1364-1404)
You've heard rags-to-riches stories. Today, we celebrate the reverse. James
of Oldo was born in 1364, into a well-to-do family near Milan. He married a
woman who, like him, appreciated the comforts that came with wealth. But an
outbreak of plague drove James, his wife and their three children out of
their home and into the countryside. Despite those precautions, two of his
daughters died from the plague, James determined to use whatever time he had
left to build up treasures in heaven and to build God's realm on earth. For

Peter and John, however, said to them in reply, "Whether it is right in the
sight of God for us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges. It is
impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard." After
threatening them further, they released them, finding no way to punish them,
on account of the people who were all praising God for what had happened.
~Acts 4:13-21

But later, as the Eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them
for their unbelief and hardness of heart
because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. He
said to them, "Go into the whole world
and proclaim the Gospel to every creature." ~Matthew 16:9-15

Jesus disciples were threatened as those in power wanted Jesus to be
forgotten. Still, they were fearless in proclaiming, "It is impossible for
us not to speak about what we have seen and heard." In the Gospel today
Jesus tells the Eleven to "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel
to every creature." It was impossible to stop the message from going out.
And the group of believers grew by leaps and bounds as thousands and
thousands were Baptized.

I pray that my heart may burn with fire with the love of God and the message
of the Resurrection. I pray that I may "Go into the whole world and
proclaim the Gospel to every creature."
