St. Vincent Ferrer (1350?-1419)
The polarization in the Church today is a mild breeze compared with the
tornado that ripped the Church apart during the lifetime of this saint. If
any saint is a patron of reconciliation, Vincent Ferrer is. Despite parental
opposition, he entered the Dominican Order in his native Spain at 19. After
brilliant studies, he was ordained a priest by Cardinal Peter de Luna-who
would figure tragically in his life. Of a very ardent nature, Vincent
practiced the austerities of his Order with great energy. He was chosen
prior of the Dominican house in Valencia shortly after his ordination.

God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right
hand of God, he poured forth the promise of the Holy Spirit that he received
from the Father, as you both see and hear." ~Acts 2:14, 22-33

Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went away quickly from the tomb, fearful
yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the news to his disciples. And behold,
Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his
feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go
tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me." ~Matthew
28:8-15

During these days after Easter we hear of great power unleashed. We also
hear of the word spreading and Jesus appearing to many people. He means to
help them understand what all of this means, and to give them the wisdom and
courage to carry on the work of ushering in His Kingdom.

I pray that I may rejoice in the Resurrection of my Lord. I pray that I may
be strengthened by these early accounts, and help continue the work of
building God's Kingdom.

Jan asks prayers that her husband will receive good news from his doctor on
Monday.

We pray for people suffering from natural disaster, especially those in
Haiti and Chile. We pray for great respect for life from natural conception
to natural death. We pray for an end of terrorism and war, for the safety
of our troops and their families at home.

May God Bless you and those you love, and keep you safe!

Father Pat

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalm 46:10
