Nigel,
For cylinders of that size I generally agree with all the points made
by John Paget. As for material, IMHO brz or CI will do. You mention
clearance for ring rotation, by which I assume you meant the O-rings, for
once iron rings are positioned on the piston (or rather their gaps ar
positioned) they don't want to rotate.
