Those small square islands are MeSquares from QRPME:

It's a lot of fun building with them: I just glue them to the board as I
go. There are cheaper ways to get them, for example making holes in a pcb
with a puncher but I had ordered one bag of mesquares and I have barely
used a quarter of them. Maybe even less. It's worth the time saved and it
allows me to look at the circuit upside down, like I am used too ;)
