I watched some of the videos on the CK88 and YC88. The piano and organ
instruments sounded great. To me though, the brass and string samples sounded
very “synthy”, like 1980s pop. Was that by design? Do the keyboards also have
more naturally sounding samples for these instruments?
Does the FK88 offer the same hardware control of the organs as the YC88. I
doubt it, otherwise there probably wouldn’t even be a YC88.
Do these keyboards have “aftertouch” (i.e. pressure sensitivity)? I apologize,
I don’t even know what this feature is called. But as you vary the applied
pressure, you change the value of one of the parameters, such as the cutoff on
a low frequency filter. Or you could trigger a different sample by applying
different pressure, just like you can with velocity. I was reminded of this
when I heard the flute played in the demos. The vibrato for the flute always
seemed to kick in after about 1 second. That made it sound less natural to me.
You could use pressure to have more control over when the vibrato starts for
each note.
I know so little about keyboards because I’ve hardly ever played. But I noticed
this feature when I first tried to play in 1988 on an Ensoniq EPS 16+. So I
hope you forgive me for asking what is probably a very obvious question.

I did write to both Yamaha about their CK88and and Roland about their RD88.
Only Yamaha had the courtesy to respond both with two phone calls and an email
with text files for the manual and now a text file for the menu lists.
I really wanted to be loyal to Roland as I already have a TD17KV EDrum kit and
a Juno DS61, but alas, they aren’t interested in Accessibility, so Yamaha gets
my business for the fully weighted keyboard this time.
