Just to add to this, John Melaz, the creator of the montage and motif editors,
made an editor for the CK series that is screen reader friendly on Windows. Do
a search for this, as I do not have the site handy but it offers deep editing
of sounds and stuff. I use his editors with my Montage and they work well.

I also know, the CK doesn’t have the newer rotary speaker for the organ, like
the YC does.

Hi Doug,
I’ll answer your questions inline:
I watched some of the videos on the CK88 and YC88. The piano and organ
instruments sounded great. To me though, the brass and string samples sounded
very “synthy”, like 1980s pop. Was that by design? Do the keyboards also have
more naturally sounding samples for these instruments?
*Joe: It depends on how they are played and the effects added. I’ve heard some
very realistic samples of the strings and brass but not all demos bring it out
well.
Does the cK88 offer the same hardware control of the organs as the YC88. I
doubt it, otherwise there probably wouldn’t even be a YC88.
*Joe: Yes, there are I think 8 or 9 drawbars on the CK88.
Do these keyboards have “aftertouch” (i.e. pressure sensitivity)? I apologize,
I don’t even know what this feature is called. But as you vary the applied
pressure, you change the value of one of the parameters, such as the cutoff on
a low frequency filter. Or you could trigger a different sample by applying
different pressure, just like you can with velocity. I was reminded of this
when I heard the flute played in the demos. The vibrato for the flute always
seemed to kick in after about 1 second. That made it sound less natural to me.
You could use pressure to have more control over when the vibrato starts for
each note.
*Joe: I don’t know for sure about aftertouch but there is velocity sensitivity.
The flute does have multiple articulations depending on the velocity of the
key strike and on how you use the pitch-bend and mod levers.
I know so little about keyboards because I’ve hardly ever played. But I noticed
this feature when I first tried to play in 1988 on an Ensoniq EPS 16+. So I
hope you forgive me for asking what is probably a very obvious question.
Thanks for your time,

Hi Joe, I would be very interested in a copy of the list the tech support at
the Yamaha sent you. I used to use a Roland but I'm now onto Yamaha and would
be very interested in looking at the accessibilities and capabilities of the
keyboard.
Many thanks, Brian On 18 Apr 2024, at 9:00 AM, joestephen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi All,
I’m sending this to both lists as it may be of interest. In my search for an
accessible keyboard with built-in sounds, I’ve settled on the Yamaha CK88. One
of the main reasons is that not only does the UI have a single button for every
function, but Yamaha tech support have really gone over and above to give me a
complete list of the menus and every setting. There are also shortcuts to get
to many options in the menus. If anyone is interested in the Settings menu
list, let me know off list.
(I haven’t purchased it yet but I will be.)
I did write to both Yamaha about their CK88and and Roland about their RD88.
Only Yamaha had the courtesy to respond both with two phone calls and an email
with text files for the manual and now a text file for the menu lists.
I really wanted to be loyal to Roland as I already have a TD17KV EDrum kit and
a Juno DS61, but alas, they aren’t interested in Accessibility, so Yamaha gets
my business for the fully weighted keyboard this time.
Thanks
Joe
