Indeed, the last preacher our church complained about was ordained
(supernumerary). Not his doctrine. He was just boring. Mind you, they seem not
to complain about useless LP’s. We have recently recognised a local preacher
who has never, in my experience, preached a half-competent sermon. I keep out
of LP training There would be too many arguments. Again, no doctrinal problems,
just completely unorganised. And the one who is on trial now cannot be heard
unless the PA system is working at full power. We are just too worried about
upsetting people.

Sadly John's critique of preaching does not apply uniquely to some local
preachers but to some ordained preachers too. If preaching is going to remain
the dominant form of communication in worship a lot more attention needs to
be paid to it. Even if Ray doesn't agree with the theology it be would nice
to have it communicated succinctly and well, and with a modicum of insight.
