I wonder if a reinstall would help tiger see that drive you were trying to mount? No idea...
People, please remember, OSX is *not* windows. There is no need to reinstall the entire os just because one single operation is not working properly. Unlike windows, in OSX, each operation is handled by it's own separate subsystem. The benefit of this is that if something is broken, you need only repair/replace/upgrade/modify the broken component. Because of this, there's absolutely no reason to reinstall the entire operating system, just because one small portion of it appears to be broken. This is another reason everyone should have a minimum of two accounts on your machine, one for system level access (for installing programs with admin privs) and one standard user account for running everyday operations. You can of course have multiple user-level accounts, specifically for testing things like this.
Ok, so the drive won't mount.
did you reboot? (usually not necessary, but sometimes things get messed up) Did you try it under an account with admin privs (assuming yours doesn't have them) Did you try it under a user-level account (assuming your account isn't one)
Did you try it under a different user-level account (assuming yours is)
Generally, you can solve small problems just by trying it again, or with another user-id. It's possible settings for one user got setup to ignore something it shouldn't. Observing different behavior under another user would tell you that your default account is not configured properly, and needs looked at. If on the other hand, it operates the same way, then you know it's a system-level problem, and that makes a difference where you would look for a solution. Please do not slide into the ms mantra of reinstall every time there's the slightest little problem, I've been seeing that answer all too often lately, and it's really not necessary most of the time.
