Yes, cmd+r, if you time it right, gets you to the recovery hd directly. Either way (option and arrowing or cmd+r) the window and navigation is the same once you get there.
I've sent a message to accessibility@xxxxxxxxx re: the inaccessibility of the wifi menu as I didn't find a way to get into it either.
