Alrighty, did some reading, and yup the iPhone of course has RAM memory, seems
to be referred to as run-time memory in a lot of the documentation. In the case
of the 4S it is 512 Mb.Seems so that whatever tickle my brain to do a restart
was right. Restarting your phone clears out the runtime memory and starts
fresh. clossing Apps through the switcher also apparently helps, but the full
restart is the best bet for clearing that memory. Seems like each version of
iOS makes the runtime memory more efficient, but I haven't found anything that
says how much more efficient iOS 8 got. Looks like iOS 4 turned out to be a
memory hog, but then the efficiency for subsequent versions has gotten all that
back.

Cheers,

Ian
