Cheryl, and anyone else frustrated with constant authentication log-in
announcements that disappear !
I am confident I have found the source of this problem.
Firstly, I am running a 2017 21.5" iMac with solid state drive and High Sierra.
I first noticed this problem when I received this machine running Sierra.
The source of the announcement is the screen sleep function, and there are two
parts to this.
In the Energy Saver preference my period before entering screen sleep was 20
minutes, possibly the default, I have reset it to Never with a warning that
this may reduce the life of the screen. I will change this after I complete
this study even though I use the screen curtain.
After making this change I have not heard the irritating announcement.
The second part is in the Security and Privacy preference where you can choose
to require a password after the screen or screen saver has been activated. This
option has always been unchecked. The next option is the time period to wait
before the authentication is required, the default is 'immediately'.
My assumption is that with the announcement set to immediately the window has
been triggered and VO speaks it but it then disappears, even though I have the
previous option set to no password.
I intend to change the option from immediate to a time period, perhaps five
minutes, also taking my screen sleep off Never, perhaps back to 20 minutes,
and observe what happens.
I am interested to know whether you also find this to solve the issue in your
machine.
