Thanks Jim, good to hear from an actual user rather than those of us who are
really good at investigoogling an issue. Yes, I am indeed pointing at myself on
that.
A couple of questions
Do you have experience working with tables?
One of the things I did a lot of back in my Word for Windows days was creating
booklets, or bookfold printing. Church bulletins, two-sided half-page inserts
and handouts, stuff like that. This went away in previous versions of Word for
Mac, I didn’t care because it was in the time before Voiceover accessibility
was robust. According to the support docs it’s back, do you have any experience
with this formatting option? If not bookfold printing itself, how about general
margin and layout controls, good accessibility there?
Keith, what do you mean by Office going exclusively Internet? Do you mean that
it will be delivered as an on-line service accessed through a browser like
Google Docs? What I’m reading is that currently it’s much like IWork, apps are
installed and updated, you can use them completely locally or store documents
on your 1 Drive space, kind of like Pages I guess. Support docs say you need to
connect at least every 31 days to keep up to date and have full access to
documents. It looks like they are planning more and more integration with
on-line and cloud services, but I’m not reading anything saying the core office
functions or apps are being moved away from local installation. Looks like they
are moving away from one-time purchase to the subscription model, which I guess
has its positives and negatives.I was one of those users who stuck with an
Office installation for years because it kept working, and why pay for
something that isn't going to work any better, and might actually work worse
with access tech if I upgrade? I think I was still using Word For Windows 2000
when I switched to Mac in 2011. My Thinkpad was a 2007, but I intentionally
ordered it with a downgraded version of Windows for access tech reasons.
I’m thinking there is some security in knowing Apple looks to be sticking with
IWork being included, so if things go South I can go back to those apps. I’m
guessing I’ll stick with Numbers as a spreadsheet, but just for preference
because I like the way you can work from table to table.
Cheers,
Ian

May I humbly say that Office 365 for the Mac is fantastic, of course, you may
use the traditional Office ribbon if you like, but additionally, you have
access to the Apple pulldown menus, giving you the same choices as the
ribbon, it is, at least for me, far far more intuitive than Pages, and there
is tons of documentation on the Microsoft site, it is well worth the
subscription price or purchasing it outright.
I would not use any other program for Word Processing on the Mac.

Keith,
What do you mean by online only? You can be sure that Office desktop apps are
not going anywhere. They are a standard, and Office 2019 was released not
long ago and is actively being developed. What Microsoft is doing is to try
and move as many people as possible to the Office 365 subscription model,
which gives you access to many of their internet services and also allows you
to download and install the latest version of Office apps. It looks like
traditional Office licenses will be disappearing, but that doesn't mean you
won't have access to the usual desktop apps as you know them. You may want to
have a look at that as I believe they offer a free trial of Office 365, and
for the past couple of years they have been focusing on making things
accessible. Let me know if you need any help with it.

Yes I do know that is not at this time not internet only but the point I am
having trouble getting across is that it looks like it will soon be.

Ms Word is definitely not online only, and the Mac version actually works
nicely with VO these days. You could even consider Google Docs. Not the
easiest to learn, but a good option.

Thanks my friend,
My wife who is our secretary was using MS word but then they went internet
only and neither one of us is comfortable with that and pages no longer
supports Male merge and we need that.
I think I am going to poke around a little while longer. Some years ago I
used this app even translated braille with it. Maybe I am just missing
something.
Thanks again CJ.

Keith,
My results were the same as Johns. Actually, worse now that I think
about it, because it was pretty much inaccessible. Have you considered
Pages? Johnathan Mosen has a complete audio tutorial on his site
for…maybe…$35? I’m not a hundred percent certain about the tutorial’s
price. But, I do remember, when I bought my tutorial on Amadeus about a
month ago, it was a temptation. Anyway, just a thought & best of luck.
Blessings,

Thanks.
