May I humbly say that Office 365 for the Mac is fantastic, of course, you may
use the traditional Office ribbon if you like, but additionally, you have
access to the Apple pulldown menus, giving you the same choices as the ribbon,
it is, at least for me, far far more intuitive than Pages, and there is tons of
documentation on the Microsoft site, it is well worth the subscription price or
purchasing it outright.
I would not use any other program for Word Processing on the Mac.

What do you mean by online only? You can be sure that Office desktop apps are
not going anywhere. They are a standard, and Office 2019 was released not long
ago and is actively being developed. What Microsoft is doing is to try and move
as many people as possible to the Office 365 subscription model, which gives
you access to many of their internet services and also allows you to download
and install the latest version of Office apps. It looks like traditional Office
licenses will be disappearing, but that doesn't mean you won't have access to
the usual desktop apps as you know them. You may want to have a look at that as
I believe they offer a free trial of Office 365, and for the past couple of
years they have been focusing on making things accessible. Let me know if you
need any help with it.

supports Male merge and we need that.
