Dear MAASE Members,

Happy February everyone and welcome to the second half of the school year. If
you?re like me you?re beginning to wonder if you?ll ever get ?caught up.?
Please be reminded however, that one of your most important job
responsibilities is to be "in the know.? I certainly hope you?ve signed-up for
the upcoming MAASE PD and General Membership meetings. It?s hard to get away
this time of year but, if you review the attached agenda, I?m sure you will not
want to miss these events. I believe attendance this February will be a record
so I know most of you understand the importance of MAASE for effective special
education administration.

Additional news and notes:

? Local School District Administrator (MALSEA) members of MAASE will want to
attend the HQ presentation by MDE Office of Professional Preparation staff at
11:30 AM after the MAASE general membership meeting.

? OSE/EIS, with the support of Public Sector Consultants (PSC), has
undertaken the task of updating and redesigning the Continuous Improvement and
Monitoring System (CIMS) for the 2008/09 school year. Several MAASE members
are involved. A complete list of the workgroup can be found in download section
of the MAASE website.

? HQ Power Point and Q & A: The latest MDE power point and Q & A documents
are available in the download section of the MAASE website.

? MAASE was recently asked to join a referent group established by
Superintendent Mike Flanagan to review and redesign the ?Ed Yes!? report card
and accreditation system. As your representative I will focus on the issues
of segregated-site schools, buildings with ?center? programs, and the links
between CIMS and the MDE School Improvement Framework.

? Sue Mulder, Director for Kent City Public Schools will be retiring at the
end of the year.

? MAASE has signed a contract with Grand Traverse Resort for Summer Institutes
in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Drive carefully everyone and see you soon ?at MAASE.?

- Tony
