Andreas, Good question, so I asked my son the developmental biologist at UC Berkeley. He wrote: "Well, there's many kinds of worms. The common earthworm is called an annelid. Segmented, no appendages (legs). Another example in this group is the leech. There are also flatworms, called platyhelminthes. Example- planarian. There are round worms, called nematodes. Example- C. elegans. You're right, they aren't all of those things that you mentioned. They are on their own." So there you have it. The worm slithers alone.
