[Linuxtrent] [urgente] problema kdm (nvidia su knoppix-games)

Salve a tutti,
ho installato ai parenti una knoppix-games residente sull'hard disk.
Dopo parecchia fatica (c'e' qualche bug che segnalero'...) ora c'e'
tutto quel che serve, e in particolare:
- accelarazione 3d nvidia (mx 440)
- supporto winmodem (con cui vi sto scrivendo :)
C'e' pero' un problema che non sono riuscito a risolvere finora e oggi
pomeriggio me ne devo tornare a casa (da qui nasce l'urgenza):
l'ultimo servizio che parte quando il sistema viene su e' appunto kdm
(dopo l'accelerazione e il winmodem), ma fallisce in un qualche modo e
mi lascia solo la login testuale; se mi loggo subito come root e
lancio kdm start a mano invece tutto funziona corretamente e parte kdm
(precedeuto da una scermata pubblicitaria di nvidia).
Non riesco a capire che differenza ci sia tra i due momenti (partenza
automatica e partenza manuale), visto che kdm e' l'ultimo script di
runlevel 5 a partire.
In kdm.log vedo che tra le due esecuzioni c'e' almeno questa
sostanziale differenza, presente nel primo:

ma non riesco a capire a che cosa sia dovuta: come si "inizializza" il
device e come mai due secondi dopo a mano non presenta qusto problema?
E' la prima volta che utilizzo schede nvidia con linux per cui non sono pratico.
Qualunque aiuto per risolvere il problema e' decisamente gradito!

P.S.: per completezza vi mando il log delle ultime due sessioni di kdm
(kdm.log): la prima lanciata dallo script di runlevel 5 (e fallita) e
la seconda lanciata a mano subito dopo e funzionante:
