[Linux-Discussion] upgrading

Before I upgrade Linux(Mandrake 6.5 is about 3 years old) I am going to
backup up some stuff.
Well, I'm not sure if that md5 password package would conflict with the
current password file. I don't right now have md5 installed.
All passwords are 8 or less characters. If I reinstall the current password
and group files as they are on my currect old Linux system onto the new Linux
system, and the new one is going to have md5 by default, does anyone know if
that might be a problem?
