If it's supported on 2.4.9 or *above,* install the latest kernel you can.  
You have to run 2.4.12 or higher anyway (IIRC) for security reasons.  

(Btw: Unless they're using some specific kernel componet or a module built 
for a particular kernel version, it'll work on *any* version of the 
kernel.)  The API's and whatnot don't change that much version-to-version.
